Lion's Mane

Lion’s Mane, scientifically referred to as Hericium erinaceus (also playfully nicknamed as bearded tooth fungus, satyr’s beard, pom pom mushroom, hedgehog mushroom, bearded hedgehog mushroom), is an edible mushroom that belongs to the tooth fungus group. The Lion’s Mane mushroom is easily identified by long spines that can grow longer than 1cm long. Lions mane grows in the wild on hardwoods and tends to grow in a cluster of long dangly spines. Lion’s mane mushroom is native to Asia, Europe, and North America on hardwood trees and grows most common in the late summer and fall. American Beech trees are known to host Lion’s mane mushroom clusters.
