The parent or prototype compound of this class is called Piracetam, and was first created in 1964. Aniracetam was discovered in the 1970s by Hoffmann-La Roche. Aniracetam is actually the parent compound from which the ampakine class is derived. It has a molar mass of 219.237 g/mol and a molecular formula of C12H13NO3.
