From the Vendor: Red Reishi Mushrooms, also known as lingzhi mushrooms or by their scientific name Ganoderma lucidum, have a striking flat, red-varnished cap shaped similar to a kidney or clamshell, with white or brown pores on the underside. These soft and corky mushrooms have a long history and intriguing appearance.
Red Reishi Mushrooms have been used for over 2,000 years in Chinese medicine. Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms were first used in Chinese medicine in during the Han Dynasty around 206 BC-220 AD. Information about red reishi mushrooms appears in classical Chinese medical texts. Red Reishi Mushroom Extract has been studied for years and has been found to have various purported red reishi benefits. Red Reishi Mushroom Extract contains several compounds that lend to its effects including fungal immunomodulatory proteins (FIPs) and ganoderic acids. Other compounds include polysaccharides such as coumarin, mannitol, alkaloids, and most notably beta-glucans. Some studies found that some red reishi benefits can extend to immune and respiratory health.

What is 8:1 extract?
We offer both 1:1 and 8:1 extract of red reishi mushroom capsules. The 1:1 Red Reishi mushroom extract powder is mixed with hot water to break down the cell walls made of chitin. Breaking down chitin makes red reishi mushroom powder more bioavailable. Additionally, all of the initial red reishi mushroom material is kept during this process, making the Red reishi 1:1 extract a full spectrum red reishi mushroom extract powder with a high beta glucan content.
Red reishi mushrooms also contain triterpenoids. Triterpenoids carry more immune-modulating and cognitive promoting benefits. Additionally, triterpenoids are ethanol soluble while the beta glucans are not. Our red reishi 8:1 extract uses an ethanol extraction method to create a highly potent triterpenoid red reishi mushroom extract powder. We take a 16:1 red reishi extract which carries some of the highest triterpenoid levels possible. Yet, since beta glucans are not ethanol soluble, there are lower beta glucan levels in a 16:1 red reishi mushroom extract. In order to get a good balance of both beta glucans and triterpenoids, we mixed the 16:1 red reishi mushroom extract powder with the 1:1 red reishi mushroom extract powder to reintroduce beta glucans back into the overall extract, creating a red reishi 8:1 extract.
The best part about our 8:1 red reishi mushroom extract is the high beta glucan levels AND high triterpenoid levels. You’ll be able to take advantage of both these red reishi mushroom benefits without sacrificing a lower concentration of either triterpenoids or beta glucans. This means that the 8:1 red reishi extract is more likely to have immune system supporting and cognitive promoting benefits. Some evidence suggests that the 8:1 red reishi extract has more calming effects whereas the calming effects in the 1:1 red reishi extract are not as prominent. This makes the 8:1 extract the best option for those looking for a good balance of general red reishi health benefits and cognitive benefits.
